3. Alchite Dressing, the Crabby Healing Bandages

crabbybandage

Usually, people would expect crabs to be good for two things: seafood and pinching.  But as it turns out, they have uses in the medical field.  That’s technically been true for ages, since crab shells were a key feature in Chinese medicines, but now the formula might start seeing extended use.

Crab shells contain a mineral called chitosan, which became a key ingredient in a new type of bandages.  The University of Bolton’s technology team tapped that mineral to create alchite dressing, which in turn has been refined into bandages and casting with two key advantages: they pull away huge amounts of fluid, and their antimicrobial features speed up the healing process.  With a commercially-ready product in their midst, the plan is to have a full release later this year.
